Mahayogi Vemana Peetha has been instituted at the Karnataka University, Dharwad to honour Mahayogi Vemana, a saint, mystic, popular poet and social reformer of Andhra Pradesh.
Vemana was brought into limelight with the publication of his collected poems by C.P. Brown in 1829. Brown again published a second collection of about 1200 poems in 1839.
Mahayoi Vemana, popularly known as YOGI VEMANA, was an Indian philosopher and poet in the Telugu language. His poems are known for their use of simple language and native idioms. They discuss the subjects of yoga, wisdom and morality.
